This play is a light hearted tale based on events that happened when SS Politician ran aground off the Hebridean Coast in 1941. It was carrying a cargo which included 22,000 cases of scotch whisky bound for America. Needless to say this was of great interest to the locals and Compton Mackenzie, who was living in the area, wrote a light hearted fictional tale about it under the title Whisky Galore. James Scotland adapted the script for stage and it has become a much loved Scottish comedy over the years.
As Kilmacolm Dramatic Society formed at the end of WWII, in 1945, this play was an ideal choice to celebrate the Society having entertained the local community for the past 80 years.
